Edge Media projects are typically built around current events and/or issues important to our society and are frequently implemented in cooperation with teachers in joint classroom and extracurricular settings.

Edge Media seek to nurture future generations of citizens that have the creative, technical and critical thinking skills to use even the most common media creation tools to positively impact our society.

On average Inye teaches at least two media arts classes annually at a local school or community arts center and a large project with a partner organization or school every two or three years. A Brief History

Edge Media was created in 2007 by Inye Wokoma. After serendipitously falling into the world of youth arts education in 1998, Inye found he had a passion for teach media arts that matched his creative passion. His first job teaching photography proved to be his most challenging and most rewarding. When he accepted an invitation to serve as a photography instructor for young men charged with felony offenses in a Georgia juvenile corrections facility he discovered what youth could accomplish when given a sincere opportunity to express themselves. He also learned what could be accomplished with only the bare essentials. Contrary to his initial expectations the young men were extremely disciplined in class and with the equipment. They were enthusiastic and exceptionally creative giving in their limiting circumstances.

Working with those young men solidified his commitment to sharing his knowledge and talents with young people eager to learn. Thus arts and youth media education would eventually became central to the Ijo Arts mission. Edge Media programming is a product of that ever evolving commitment.

Edge Media Student Project Showcase

DUMPER: A Gear Up Environmental Summer Camp Student Project Video

Gear Up 2007 Environmental Summer Camp
Video Production Component
Location: Asa Mercer Middle School

During the summers of 2006 and 2007 Inye Wokoma was a part of a teaching team for an environmental summer camp. The camps were service and expeditionary learning projects that focussed on local environmental issues. The students learned about King County’s water system and took many trips including visits to regional watersheds and municiple water and sewage processing plants.

The youth worked in teams during the two-week course of the camps. Each team produced video shorts based on an aspect of what they learned. This video is an example of their final presentations.
